I was reading _The Greenlanders_ by Jane Smiley and spent time the
1300s. A fascinating look into life and customs. Her writing is
picturesque and I could truly see the people, farms, clothing, utensils,
weapons ... Not a plot driven story though so when I finished I dove
headfirst into a Stephen King. Plenty of plot there, :-)
A friend at work brought me his _Full Dark, No Stars_ book of 4 (I
think) novellas. On the table of contents she highlighted one in green
and told me to start there. "Big Driver" She was right, pretty gosh
durn good! I only read the one; I'll keep the others for inbetween
times -- I can always count on King to amuse, entertain and thrill me.
I love him so
Then I started reading _Of Walking in Ice_ by Werner Herzog which a diff
friend read for a class. It's a journal of Werner walking from Munich
to Paris in 1974. It's a small book & I've only read about 10 pages.
So far it's weird (ha - that's my pathetic literary comment) extremely
descriptive and I'm not sure just where it's 'going'. My friend, Joe,
said "read this and tell me what you think" so some pressure is on.
But this morning I wanted something more entertaining so started _The
Truth Will Out_ by Brenda James & William D. Rubinstein. Which I
think they should have named /The Truth Will Out Will /as it's about the
"Unmasking the Real Shakespeare". Non-fiction and reading
interestingly -- she appears to have researched like crazy and
discovered who _really_ wrote the plays and poems. (maybe) Lots of
interesting history and literature so far. Did you know he coined some
1,500 new words and phrases??? "amazement" to "zany"!!!!
All four of these books were handed to me by one friend or another
telling me to read it & read it soon. How wondrous my life is, that
has such people in it!
